Roccamorice is a vivacious village sitting at an elevation of 480 meters in the Pescara Province of Abruzzo. The capital city of Pescara lies about 40 kilometers to the east. The community contains several nearby localities – Piano delle Castagne, Collarso, Colle Cauto, Costa del Colle, Crognaleto, Pagliari. Adjacent towns include Abbateggio, Caramanico Terme, Lettomanoppello, Pennapiedimonte, and Pretoro. Roccamorice has a distinctive “V” shape which was created by the imprint of the now dry Lavino and Lanello rivers. .
A large monastery can be found on the outskirts of Roccamorice. This and several homes in the area attest to the manner in which the village was first named.
There is a Toronto, Canadia organization, Club Roccamorice, made up of emigrees and their families from the lovely hilltop location of Roccarmorice. As a way of keeping alive the memories of their ancestral home in Abruzzo, several Club Roccamorice members have memorized the village postal code – 65020. Others are considering tattoo’s with this same logo. All the members have heard tales of the patron saint, San Donato and the village church that bears his name.
Located to the southwest of the Roccamorice is Pacentro, ancestral home of the Ciccone family amongst whom the most famous is perhaps the popstar Madonna. In the Province of Teramo to the north is the village of Valle San Giovanni, home of Villa Casale. Guests at this setting make the journey from Teramo to Roccamorice to dine at one of the wonderful restaurants located in Roccamorice – Tholos, Belvedere, or La Volpe. Chefs from the village of Roccamorice are world reknown for their various extraordinary and exquisite risotto dishes.
